General election 2019 - use your vote

An election is coming up in December here in the UK - are you registered to vote in it?

The deadline to register to vote is 11:59pm on 26th November 2019. Registering takes a few minutes, and can be done online here.

Getting out and about when you're chronically ill can be tough at the best of times. Predicting whether you'll be well enough to leave the house to vote on election day? Impossible.

But your vote matters! If you're unsure if you can make it to a polling station on election day, register to vote via post, with the deadline for that being 5pm on 26 November. You can also vote via proxy, and have someone go to the polling station on your behalf.

Why is voting important? 
Politicians in government make decisions on our behalf on a daily basis - on health and social care, on education, on housing, on global issues like defence and the environment and local issues such a bin collections and libraries.

Voting is an important way of making your voice heard on issues that concern you, and gives you an opportunity to be a part of the decision making process that effects all of our lives.

Not happy with how something is effecting you? Look at what MP's in your area will focus on if voted into parliament. Also have a look at their parties values, and past voting records - one might say they're focused on helping a service, but in the past have done the opposite.

Politicians have a bad reputation - and in some cases that's warranted. But I truly believe some are in it to genuinely help those in need, and voting can change everything.

In the last election, 14.5 million people didn't vote. If "not voting" were a candidate - they would have won! But with more than 1.5 million people registering to vote since the election was announced, this years result could be different.

People fought (and died) for the right for women and the working class to vote - I hope to always use mine. Don't agree with any of the the politicians running? Leave your ballot paper blank to show them- just please use it!
